Laboratory Manager

Location: South San Francisco, CA

An exciting opportunity is available for a highly motivated scientist to fill a lab-based Scientific Lab Manager position. The successful candidate will formalize and maintain laboratory organizational systems to meet daily operational activities, to ensure alignment among team members and across lab sites, and to maintain consistent safe operating practices in all aspects of Health, Safety, Environment and Quality.

Key Responsibilities Include, But Are Not Limited To

  • Manage and be responsible for the effective operation of the research and development laboratory.
  • Support laboratory re-location and organization of new lab space.
  • Implement and maintain consolidated laboratory inventories.
  • Coordinate the procurement of critical materials in laboratories, as well as track all purchases to the correct cost center and project.
  • Formalize laboratory operation procedures including maintenance, calibration, training, and shutdown procedures.
  • Oversee equipment procurement, installation, maintenance, calibration, training, usage, and qualification including contacting and consulting with relevant vendors.
  • Implement equipment monitoring systems (freezers, incubators) as needed.
  • Assist with the shipment of company materials with outside contractors, organizations, or academic institutions.
  • Coordination and communication with lab staff across multiple sites on issues which impact lab functions.
  • Oversee the implementation of appropriate data representation and operational standards.
  • Respond to after-hours call-ins for emergencies, equipment related issues when providing facility backup.
  • Delegate appropriate tasks to lab personnel such as cleaning, waste monitoring, etc.
  • Maintain and enforce compliance to Environmental Health & Safety policies.
  • Expectation to expand research responsibilities in periods when laboratory organization and maintenance is established.

Education and Experience Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science or Master of Science
  • 2+ years experience coordinating lab activities in a biopharmaceutical company setting.
  • Excellent team-working behaviors, interpersonal and communication skills, and organizational skills.
